Salzburg

Woke up and morning not too bad. First part was an early dedparture for a little S of M trip around town - Maria von Trapp's Abbey, the rotunda in Hellbrun Palace Gardens, the leafy avenue where the kids were swinging from the trees in their garish outfits. Then was a trip up to OberSalzberg where we transferred to a local bus and then went up above the snow line again to visit Hitler's Eagle's Nest. This wqas a retreat place built for him for his 50th birthday, never a residence, only a conference place. Entry to the Nest is via a 400ft tunnell and then a 400 ft brass lined lift. On arriving up at the tunnell entrance, it was snowing fine powdery snow and by the time we got to the top it was fairly steady and constant. We explored the area and gradually the clouds lifted and we have magnificent views down to Salzburg. It felt rather strange actually being in the facility. All other buildings associated with Hitler's home and the homes of other a sociates that were at OberSalzburg were all blown up in 1952 but this was kept and is now a restraurant. BAck down again and then off to Innsbruck where we had a short walk through the old town nd Graeme found a damsel he has decided to keep attached to! From there we were split up from the tour - those going to Oberammergau were hived off into two other buses and made their way to a town called Garmisch where we were to be housed and then taken into Oberammergau the next morning. So it was a late dinner and an early rise with muchh anticipation and also much anger at how Trafalgar had handled this part of our journey - they will be told!
