God's grace at work

AFter yesterday and the Matterhorn showing itself last night we were not too sure what to expect when we woke next morning - but look what we say at 6-45am when we opened our bedroom window!! Isn't it magnificent. But then it only got better - half an hour later the sun showed its fullness and what a spectacular sight it was. But how true also is Psalm 121. We were taxied down to the station as the road was quite icey. Again our tour leader had an anxious night as there had been a landslide down the track and she wasn't sure whether we would be able to get out. We weren't at all upset if we didn't - we could do the trip that had been cancelled from the day before.
But we were able to go and again it was a wonderfully spectacular ride down the mountain to a train change at Visk which then took us through to Geneva based at the bottom end of the lake which is actually the river Rhone which we had followed from up in the Alps 2 days before. The Rhone continues on and goes into the Mediterranean at Marsailles. AFter serttling in at our hotel we did a walk tour of the town and across to the old city. Visited the St Peter Cathedral which was the church of John Calvin, the reformer. He didn't use the pulpit but would sit in a chair in front of the people so that all were at the same level - only God's word was important to receive eminence. Later we had a bus tour of Geneva - out to the UN headquarters, the Red Cross HQ, past the World Council of Churches HQ, visited the Reformation Memorial which was in a park where there were some large squares and plastic chess figures and draughts pieces for people to play around with. 7 of us had chosen not to go on an optional dinner outing and so we did our own thing in a lovely cosy Swiss restaurant where we were fully enterained informally by our english speaking French waiter. In fact all were entertaining and so we had good food, good fun.
