Let loose in Berlin

Tues 6th - arrived today in Berlin After an early rise. Christine came with us for a bit on the train from Nordestedt to Hamburg but we managed to negotiate the rest to Central station and then out to the Eastern Comfort Hostel (a boat) on the SPree River right next to what is left of some of the Berlin Wall. Went this arvo into the Berlin DOm (Cathedral) climbed right up to the base of the dome - magnificent views. However . . .

Monday April 5th
went with ANNA, Mattias in one car with CHristine, Thomas and Paula on 1 1/2 hr drfive to a medieval village - Luneburg with its in tact 14th century cloistered monastery. We picniced on the old city wall and then walked around the old town - streets of quaint houses and business, a 14th century gothic church. For Barry - there is no such thing here as a square joint, level wall or roof, perpendicular wall - spirit levels were not invented I think!! Many building in the town date from the 1500's and the4 place is in tact because it escaped any damage during the WW2. JS Bach played in one of the churches here for a couple of years. We cqme back to Hamburg with Thomas - 180kph along the autobahn!! Then a tour of the harbour, particularly from the otherside that we had seen on Sunday. GOT A GREAT PERSPECTIVE OF THE Elbe river from the Lion King Theatre. This production has been running non-stop for 10 years.

Tomorrow will be a new day of adventure in Berlin.
