Rivers Wye to Dee
Tuesday 13th began with a tour of Cardiff Castle which the grandboys would really love with its Keep and moat around it.Then began a long drive from Cardiff to Liverpool firstly via a very hillyt twisting road which made our stomachs squeemish when we reached the ruins of Tintern Abbey on the Wye River. Then we followed the river upstream eventually to Hertford and then to Ludlow for Lunch as we listened to Welsh singing on a CD as we wandered through Hertfordshire - it really stirred the heart. The trees are still without leaves which means we have magnificent views of the Welsh valleys, farms and countryside that would otherwise be obscured. Lunch was in Ludlow (meaning "town by the noisy river") in Shropshire, another medieval castle town (bought a leather looklike jacket which actually matches my walking shoes!) Coach drive then down the main street (soooooooo narrow!!) The weather is cooling although it was still sunny until as we approached Liverpool when it began to rain. The afternoon drive was into Cheshire with an afternoon stop walking the streets of Chester on the Dee Rover with its unique Rows shops. Cheshire is also a walled city whose walls are still all intact. There are decorations in the streets of old bikes, painted silver holding flower pots - most effective - how about a bike front fence Baz?? Arrived in Liverpool coming up out of the tunnell ujnder the Mersey to the sounds of the Beatles. Just had dinner and are really ready for a good night's sleep again.
